We had a couple in my old congregation who named their kid Nebu....Nebuchadn.......That king from the book of Daniel.
Then, they had another offspring, and they named the kid Abendnigo. Those poor kids. Never stood a chance in School.

Kingdom Ministry...."Youths.. who will you put first in your life?"
by integ in1) our young ones are indeed a grand blessing in the congregation.
they often times assist elderly ones in the ministry, take on responsibility in the congregation, and also assist in the caring and maintenance of the kingdom halls.
but thoughtful youth also do well to ask themselves..."am i doing enough?".

One Christian youth, 3 year old "Miranda" from 'Minnesota" put it well when she noted.."I truly enjoy my time spent in the full time ministry with my parents. Too many young ones today spend their time playing games with other youth. I realize that having a full share in the kingdom preaching work is the best way I could spend my time. I realize that by perservering in this life saving work that we have commissioned, it is indeed a grand shout of praise to our Superlative Exemplar Jehovah".
Get the f*&% out of here!!!!! Who talks like that? No 3 year old kids that I know. Shoot, no 13, 23, or 33 year olds either. Superlative Exemplar - Sheesh!!!
Fast forward 15 years.......I wonder what Miranda's user name on this board will be?

I been shunned by a Baptist,
by jst2laws injust moments ago i was on the back deck looking at the stars and a renter next door came out to do the same.
i said hello and we talked about where we were from and where we are at, spiritually.
after a few clues the neighbor asked if i had accepted jesus as my personal savior.

Baptists, JWs, Pentecostals, LDS... not much different in that respect, are they?
Country
Amen to that Country Guy. That is so true.
After leaving the JW's. I attended a couple of Fundie type churches and found them to be no better than JW's as far as being closed minded about any other beliefs other than their own. They feel that THEY alone have the truth, and some of them are very smug about it.
And, these same type of people usually will have no problem telling you that you are going to Hell. Yeah, real nice Christians.
Lord, please save me from your followers.

A Question Of Manners.
by Englishman ini'm looking for some feedback here.
hl and i like to socialise sometimes, and this often results in us hosting small parties for a few friends.. often our friends reciprocate, and then we enjoy being guests instead of being hosts.. but we keep encountering a dilemma.
one set of friends like us to visit them for afternoon bbq's or sometimes for evening dinner parties.. now, no problem with dinner parties, but if say we go to a bbq at around 4.30, they expect us to remain with them for the entire evening right through until around 11 pm or midnight, the same time as we'd stay to if we went to a late dinner party.. personally, i've had enough at about 9 pm, that's 5 hours, so we like to leave and have a pint or two in the pub on the way home.. now this makes them quite angry and they say that we're being anti-social because we are off to the pub instead of spending the whole evening with them.. i maintain that if you go to tea or a bbq in the late afternoon, then it's quite acceptable to depart earlier than if you went to a late dinner party.. what do you think?.

Having company for 4 or 5 hours is enough time for anybody. Anything beyond that is just too much. You are the one with manners. Your friend, although they probably mean well, and I'm sure they are nice people, are really not showing good manners.
It's your life and it's your time. If you want to leave by 9 or 10 to go and do what you want to do, then by all means do it. Who are they to tell you what to do and when to do it?
Just my 2 cents.

ALL TIME FAVORITE "OLD" MOVIE
by sandy ini just finished watching "splendor in the grass".
for some reason i love to torture myself with sad movies and sad songs.. the end of that movie is so heart breaking.
actually its bitter-sweet but when you are still stuck on someone who you cannot have it is heart-breaking.. i had to restrain myself from calling my ex.

My favorites are:
On the Waterfront. (The best of the best)
Casablanca
The Bride of Frankinstein
The Big Broadcast of 1932. - (This is a very obscure movie. Stars Bing Crosby and most of the radio greats of the day. Pure camp plus great music from that era)
Stalag 17
It's a Wonderful Life. (Yeah, I know it was overplayed but I still love that movie).
A Night at the Opera (Ha ha ha, you can't fool me, there's no such thing as a sanity clause)
A Day at the Races. (Getta you ice cream, getta you tootsie-frootsie ice cream).
Animal Crackers. (One day I shot an elephant in my pajamas. How he got in my pajamas I'll never know).

This thread just brings this song to mind.
Growin' Up - Bruce Springsteen
I stood stonelike at midnight suspended in my masquerade
I combed my hair till it was just right and commanded the night brigade
I was open to pain and crossed by the rain and I walked on a crooked crutch
I strolled all alone through a fallout zone and came out with my soul untouched
I hid in the clouded wrath of the crowd but when they said `Sit down' I stood up
Ooh-ooh growin' up
The flag of piracy flew from my mast my sails were set wing to wing
I had a jukebox graduate for first mate she couldn't sail but she sure could
sing
I pushed B-52 and bombed `em with the blues with my gear set stubborn on
standing
I broke all the rules strafed my old high school never once gave thought to
landing
I hid in the clouded warmth of the (great) crowd but when they said `Come down' I threw
up
Ooh-ooh growin' up
I took month-long vacations in the stratosphere and you know it's really hard
to hold your breath
I swear I lost everything I ever loved or feared
I was the cosmic kid in full costume dress
Well my feet they finally took root in the earth but I got me a nice little
place in the stars
I swear I found the key to the universe in the engine of an old parked car
I hid in the clouded wrath of the crowd but when they said pull down I pulled up
Ooh-ooh growin' up
